The wide entrance in the centre of the west wall of the baths is IX.4.5, on Via Stabiana.

During the original excavation, the archaeologists found the remains of the demolished residential houses in the area of the palaestra, which had not been entirely cleared by the people building the new baths. Photo courtesy of Klaus Heese.
According to Mau –
Other testaments of an earlier
era consist of various remains of flooring at different levels, in the north portico,
near the ancient tank/basin (N and NW) and in the SW corner, and the latter are
lower, following the natural slope of the ground. You can also see remains of
ancient buildings especially in the north portico, you can see large boulders
of Sarno stone with stucco cladding.

A basin/tub, (3,78 x 3,23 externally) which existed here near the western entrance doorway (IX.4.5) before the construction of the portico around the south, west and north sides of the Baths began.

Outside the wall at the left end of the photograph were the stairs at IX.4.14.
Note the support holes to support the beams of an upper floor, in the upper wall.
The entrance to room “f” is behind the brick wall on the left.
The wall of latrine “e” is on the right but there is no entrance here.
The latrine entrance is inside the entrance corridor at IX.4.10.
