VIII.6.6 Pompeii. December 2007. North-west corner. Looking west.

According to Jashemski –

“In the north-west corner there was a basin which collected rain-water from the street.

At that point a large stone had been put in the street for pedestrians crossing from one side of the street to the other.

The space between this stone and the south sidewalk was closed by a low wall, which during the rain stopped the water that flowed down the street following the slope of the street towards the east.

A little channel passing under the sidewalk and the wall carried the water into the basin in the garden.

Various tools were found in the garden.

The animal painting on the south wall was a survival from an earlier house, as was the simple aedicula shrine in the south-west corner.”
