VI.9.2 Pompeii. c.1840. Room 29, south wall. (?) Painting by James William Wild showing Cupids/Amorini.
At the top, on the left, he drew a small panel to show where these could be found.
On the right, he wrote –
“Centre of panels – the fields of the panel orange yellow within “a to a”, a dark red margin with white line and pattern in it.
The figures very light and gracefully touched – of the drapery - the shades are only a deepening of the colour. The lights touched in white.”
The Warscher photo, above, shows the dark edged square panels above the zoccolo/dado, where we think these may have been found.
The Jashemski photo, above, (J68f0997) shows how faded the panels were in 1968.
Reading PPP, and PPM, we are not sure whether there would have been two panels on both the north and south wall, or just these two on the south wall.
If anyone knows anything different, we would be pleased to hear from them.

It looks like the west and east wall would have had a candelabra base in their positions.

If anyone knows anything different, we would be pleased to hear from them.
