VIII.7.28 Pompeii. July 2010. Irregular shaped sacred room. North wall. Mau describes a sacred room that seems to have been used for secret ceremonies. It was entered from the colonnade by a narrow door which could be securely fastened. On the north side is a niche that apparently formed part of a small shrine. The water filled plastic bottles are stabilisers for the lighting towers used in the large theatre. See Mau, A., 1907, translated by Kelsey F. W. Pompeii: Its Life and Art. New York: Macmillan.
