According to Jashemski –
The peristyle garden at the rear of the tablinum of the house at entrance 47 was enclosed on the west and north by a portico supported by five columns which were joined by a low wall, with an entrance to the garden on the west.
Both the mouth of a cistern (on the north) and a terracotta puteal (on the west) were incorporated into the low wall.
The four small columns in the garden probably supported a pergola which shaded a wooden triclinium.

Al centro del giardino s’innalzavano quattro piccole colonne che probabilmente sostenevano il pergolato di letti tricliniare in legno.

According to Fiorelli, the walls that closed the peristyle on two sides, of various coloured marbles, had a frieze showing gladiators’ weapons, today lost/vanished. (GDS 1862, pp.21-22).

The impact of the flow of ashes had so broken the walls but the paintings at least could have been drawn by intelligent designers who came to portray the beautiful different weapons, such as helmets, shields, etc, which were seen in the guise of a frieze decorating the top of the western wall of the second courtyard [peristyle 19] (ten palms from the ground (approximately 8ft up from the soil), which makes it very likely that these paintings, made by Michele Mastracchio, preserve the only memory of these painted decorations.

According to Jashemski –
“The four small columns in the garden probably supported a pergola which shaded a wooden triclinium.
An elegant triclinium (b) (now room 8) to the left of the passageway leading to the peristyle had a wide window opening into the west portico, giving a good view into the garden. The window could be closed with four vertical folding leaves”.
