According to Jashemski –
Maiuri found the huge root cavities of two rows of trees that had been planted approximately eight metres apart around the edges of the large enclosed area on the north, west and south. Casts were made of these cavities. The size and shape of the cavities indicated to the excavators that the trees had been plane trees, only a little less than one hundred years old.
