I.3.24 Pompeii. December 2005. Entrance doorway.

According to Garcia y Garcia, a plaster cast of a portion of the entrance doorway with two shutters (leafs), half closed, with lock, door-bolt, hinge and iron doorlock, and provenanced from the doorway at I.3.24, used to be seen in the Antiquarium prior to the 1943 bombing.

I.3.24 Pompeii. On the left, modern wooden reconstruction of a doorway, drawn by Gusman, on display on the rear wall of Room 1 of the Antiquarium, before the 1943 bombing.

This clearly showed the iron studs/nails and architrave of a typical Pompeian door with two shutters.

On the right, provenanced from I.3.24, drawn by Gusman, a plaster cast of the rear portion of the entrance doorway with two shutters (leafs), half closed, with lock, door-bolt, hinge and iron door lock, and on display in the Antiquarium prior to the 1943 bombing.

On the right of the doorway is the cast of the ancient door with locks.

According to Della Corte, on the wall on both sides of the entrance were paintings of Mercury and Hercules.

He thought the house belonged to the unknown Capella, because of the graffiti, still partly legible in the 1960s.

On the left pilaster was depicted Hercules under a garland, in the right holding a skyphos, over the shoulder the club.

On the right Pilaster was Mercury with Petasos (hat) and Marsupium (purse).

Am linken Pilaster war unter einer Girlande Herkules dargestellt, in der Rechten einen Skyphos haltend, über der Schulter die Keule.

Am rechten Pilaster Merkur mit Petasos und Marsupium.

On the left is a doorway to the oecus, the corridor leading to the peristyle, the tablinum (centre right).

On the right is a doorway into a cubiculum.

According to Warscher, the table was marble leaning on two masonry supports.

According to Warscher,

“La situazione della nicchia pone la questione – se nell’atrio vi fosse oltre al piano terreno anche un primo piano giacchè essa è situata troppo in alto.

I pochi avanzi pittorici sulla parete occidentale fanno pensare ad imitazione del primo stile, che la parete cioè fosse mediante fasce divisa in rettangoli oblunghi. L’esempio di questa imitazione del primo stile o “primo stile semplificato” può vedersi nell’atrio della casa del Principe di Napoli (VI.15.7/8).

Sopra la porta del cubicolo v’è una piccola finestra”.

(translation: "The situation of the niche raised the question – if in the atrium there was ever an upper floor as the niche was located too high.

A few painted remains on the west wall suggested an imitation of the first style, divided into bands by rectangular oblongs. 

The example of this imitation of the first style or "first simplified style" can be seen in the lobby of the Casa del Principe di Napoli (VI. 15.7/8).

Over the doorway of the cubiculum there was a small window ".
