Mau described the basin, as “not very deep and lined with tufa”.

According to Mau, “it was not easy to define these rooms with certainty. It was not a bath, but it would be possible and I am disposed to think it, that here one did the laundry”.

According to Fiorelli, “there was the staircase that led to the peristyle, but half way up one meets a short descent, that led to a complex of small rooms destined perhaps to be the bath, in the first of which we have a tank that takes water from the peristyle thanks to a tube (pipe) of lead”.
